Valentine's Gift Ideas According to the 5 Love Languages

I don’t know about you but, I always feel like the holidays seem to come and go SO quickly! We’ve already sent and received cards wishing all our friends and family a merry Christmas and counted down to midnight to ring in the new year. Maybe it’s just me but I almost feel as if I blinked twice and now it’s almost Valentine’s Day…um, what?!

Well, since we’re on the subject, I thought I’d give you guys (yes, “guys” as in all the men out there) some ideas to make this Valentine’s Day the most memorable one to date! (And to all you ladies reading this, feel free to keep reading if you need to give your guy a little hint on what would make you swoon!)

However, before we jump into the list, are you familiar with a book called The 5 Love Languages? If so- awesome! If not, I’d highly recommend purchasing the book and reading it before February rolls around. (Or you can always just Google it to get the quick summary).

Identify your and your significant other’s primary love language. It’s ok if you don’t have the same one. Trust me- my husband and I are pretty much complete opposites when it comes to this but hey, opposites attract, right?

Ok, once you’ve got those languages figured out, you’ll be ready for the next part of this blog. I’m going to give you some genuine “gift” ideas for each love language and you’ll be totally set for February 14th! And pssst, I’ve included info about a special V-Day offer at the end of this post :)

1)    If her love language is QUALITY TIME, try this:

When I was playing fiddle in a country music trio, one of my bandmates gave me some pretty spot-on advice when it comes to thinking up fun date ideas for quality time with your significant other! This is exactly what he told me: “I just take her on little kid dates!” At first, I was a bit confused but he quickly clarified. He said, “You know- just things like getting ice cream together, hanging out on a playground, going fishing or playing mini golf, etc.”

To be honest, I questioned this reasoning at first. But after I thought about it for a minute, he was totally right! Some of the best memories I’ve made with my now husband have been low key, purely fun “little kid” activities. So guys, you heard it here first- try out some little kid dates with your lady this Valentine's Day :)

2)    If her love language is ACTS OF SERVICE, try this:

Ok, this one may not always get all the glitz and glamour but, it definitely can help take the burden off of some of your girl’s shoulders! I know for me that trying to run my business, take care of our three fur babies, cook “real” dinners at least 2-3 times per week and somehow keep up with all the housework can definitely become quite overwhelming sometimes! And I don’t even have “human” kids right now. If your lady is a mom (or a dog mom!) and also works another job, then props to her!!

I know that she would absolutely LOVE it if you were to serve her by mopping the floors, washing the dishes, doing some laundry, taking the kids (or pets!) off her hands for a day, etc. If you know your girl would appreciate you doing an act of service like I mentioned above, you’ll be earning bonus points in her book for SURE this Valentine’s Day!

3)    If her love language is WORDS OF AFFIRMATION, try this:

Ok, this one is right up my alley. If your lady is anything like me, a well written card, thoughtful compliment or even an encouraging sticky note on the bathroom mirror would possibly cause her to cry happy, happy tears! And don’t worry, guys- crying can sometimes actually be a GOOD thing :)

 4)    If her love language is PHYSICAL TOUCH, try this:

Alright, we’re gonna keep this PG, here. But…. something as simple as holding her hand or giving her a sweet kiss on her forehead could be worth more than any piece of jewelry your wallet could buy you! Go ahead, try it out and see how she responds.

5)    If her love language is GIFTS, try this:
